The Procedure
The procedure starts with a detailed evaluation by the orthodontist through dental impressions, digital scans, panoramic x-rays and computer generated images to examine teeth alignment, malocclusion and any dental complications the patient may have. This is followed by a detailed treatment plan based on the patient condition and requirements which may include teeth extraction, gum corrections and dental rehabilitation. This is followed by selection of braces striking a balance between the patient’s requisites and desires, fixation and preparation of a visit chart which will be explained to the patient in detail. Patient motivation and promptness in maintaining scheduled visits are paramount in ideal bracket adjustment and monitoring of progress. The last phase of the procedure is to retain the well aligned teeth with retainers for a period of time, which varies from patient to patient, until they are rooted in their new position.

Metal Braces
Metal braces are conventional form of braces that are fixed through bonded brackets and arch wires placed in these brackets that are then secured through elastic bands. Metal braces require a regular visit in every 4-6 weeks, to readjust braces and attain a desired smile line. Currently there are smaller and sleeker options in metal braces making them look more pleasing aesthetically
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are a version of metal braces made of ceramic material and so are less visible on teeth improving the aesthetic appeal many folds. Popular among the younger patients, the ceramic braces are available in various colours. However, ceramic braces may be prone to breaking, staining and the friction with the metal wire increases the treatment duration. A new variant in ceramic braces with metal slot has now provided a much better alternative.
Invisalign
Invisalign are a series of custom-made transparent aligners that a patient needs to wear and change in a sequence at regular intervals till completion of treatment. the first set is custom made to match the patient’s pre-treatment arch form and every 4-6 weeks the patient is recalled to assess the progress and to give the next set of aligners.
